Spitfire Centenarian

Anyone who knows Clara Moll knows she's surprisingly spry and strong... especially for her 105 years of age.  Happenstance caused our paths to cross 5 years ago when I passed by her as she was raking leaves outside.  I snapped a photo and was honored that they chose to use that snapshot for her 100th birthday card.  At her party, she demonstrated her agility by touching her toes numerous times...something many people 300 years her junior can't do. 

Quite a character.  And why I HAD to photograph her again.  I'll have to do this again in another 5 years... if I'm still alive.

Inspiration to Incorporation

As I'm doing a few, very short, studio sessions to renew my skills in creative studio photography, I'm enjoying the process as each one brings something unexpected.  Today's subject brought a dress that featured a cream-colored top but a dark, maroon bottom.  I don't like contrasts, so I chose to wrap similar cream tones around the bottom.  Then I added wind for her hair... but instead was thrilled with the effect of the wind on the fabric.

My sessions often start with a simple image, but end with unanticipated magic.

You did THAT... THERE?

Some photographers work with gorgeous models, in exotic locations, and with wealthy clients.  I enjoy working with regular subjects in ordinary locations with middle incomes.  It's very satisfying and rewarding.  I prefer to let people come to me for what I can do for them... which is to photograph them better than anyone else can.    It's my job to make the best of every situation.  As I often say, it's... what I do.
