History is made!

OK, just to warn you... this post is all brag.  But also all fact!  :)

Shirley and I just got back from Wisconsin Professional Photographer's annual convention.  I won Photographer's Choice Best Senior Girl Folio, Photographer's Choice Best Boy Folio, People's Choice Best Girl Folio, People's Choice Best Boy Folio, and Senior Photographer of the Year for combined total score betyween the two folios (this was my 14th time I won this top award)!  But this was the first time I ever won all the high school senior portrait awards!!!

Here are the senior portrait folios:

And...

I had the highest scoring case of four portraits, and was chosen Wisconsin's Photographer of the Year (my third time)!

And...

I scored a "100" on Got Legs!  A 100 is an EXTREMELY hard score to achieve.  In 20 years of entering I've never done that, and in most competitions no one does.

Here are the portrait entries:

Voyeur... Score 82

Because all the entries scored over 80, I also was awarded a "Four for Four" medal.  This too is a difficult award to win.

One final note...  NO  portrait photographer in Wisconsin has EVER won all these top awards!!!

Am I proud?  YOU BET!  Thanks to the people who allowed me to photograh them and make ME look so good!

Wally and Mary

Wally and Mary Roob are legends in the portrait world in Milwaukee.  They've been around forever, and have employed many others who went on to start their own photography business.  Wally's quite the character, as anyone who knows him, knows that.  One delight he shares with us is his harmonica... always ready to bring it out at the drop of a hat. 

Two weeks ago our little PPA guild help a "Dish to Pass" meeting whereby we bring models to share with others to photograph with studio lighting.  Wally and Mary were there as guests, but I couldn't resist asking them to act as models for a moment.  Magic happened.  I was lucky enough to snap a few images that I think captured the heart of that moment. After a few tender images of the two of them together, I asked him to play his beloved harmonica with his even more beloved wife, Mary, at his side.

Technical details... two Photogenic mini-spots.  70-200mm lens and camera on a tripod.  Push button!

No rocket science needed... just heart.

Go To (this) Meeting!

Fotogs... you GOTTA get to next weekend's WPPA convention in Green Bay.  There's a terrific line-up of speaking talent, along with a bunch of other, great, new things.  Remember print competition where you sat behind the judges and stay silent?  Well, this year, the images will be shown digitally in another room where a PARTY will be happening!

As for speakers, there'll be Joel Grimes, Woody Walters, Richard Sturdevant, and some other guys I hadn't heard of but I'm sure will light up the stage.   And a Green Bay convention wouldn't be complete without a Packer.  So, none other than LeRoy Butler (Mr. Lambeau leap) will share his inspiring story.

All that mixed with a trade Show to get hurt for (to die for is a little extreme) make for an unforgettable experience no to be missed.

Don't be the one who heard about it later and wished you had been there!!!

Four Season Fun!

Kelly has been a great girl to work with over the past year.  She was always willing to help me when I needed to try a few things.  One product I wanted to attempt was a four season portrait panel.  I happened to have photographed Kelly in each season, so I put a one of each season's session into this panel.

I don't think it could have turned out any better!  Thanks Kelly!
